imagesCAWN7UXCI’m very happy to be teaching at the DWC of Syracuse again this year. Feel free to browse their full course catalog of writing workshops for the fall/winter of 2016 and be sure to check out their reading series as well. They’ve got some great poets and authors speaking again this year. Everything’s happening at their newly-renovated digs in the arts wing of the Downtown YMCA

The Young Authors Academy: Saturdays 12:00-2:00, starting back up in September 2016

The Young Authors Academy is a new creative writing program from the Downtown Writer’s Center. The program is free for Syracuse City School District middle and high school students, thanks to the generosity of an individual donor. The program is also available outside the SCSD, for a small tuition fee, and need-based financial assistance is available.

The YAA is for 6th-8th and 9th-12th graders. Two separate classes are held for each group of grades, both at the same time: Saturday afternoons, 12:00-2:00. For teens who are passionate about creative writing, this is a perfect opportunity for them to learn with peers, get feedback from published professional writers, and develop their knowledge and talent.

The Writer’s Life: Tuesdays, 6:30-8:30. 8 weeks

In this fiction course, students examine the process of writing and embracing an effective writing practice. We’ll introduce successful techniques and notice pitfalls to avoid, habits to overcome. Students will generate new work, stretch their imaginations, and get their creative juices flowing.
